Choosing Your Coaching Path – Trends in Coaching

The world is changing.

People are looking for more from their lives, their workplaces, their “faith” – whatever that faith maybe – and of course – they’re looking for more from their experience of sport.

As coaches are the primary deliverers of the experience of sport, it has never been more important that ALL coaches are aware of and have embraced their own Coaching Path.

What is Your Coaching Path?

Your Coaching Path is simply your vision for your coaching.

To understand this, start by asking yourself a few questions:

“What is it you want to achieve in your coaching – and how will you achieve it” – these are important questions.

But by far – the most important question to consider is:

“Why do I coach?”

This one ostensibly simple question is the key to your coaching success – and to you thriving throughout your coaching journey.

Understanding your “why” simplifies and clarifies everything you will do in your coaching.

What Do We Need to Change – and Re-Frame about our Coaching Path:

  • We’ve been overly focused on the SCIENCE of SPORT in the development of coaches.
  • We’ve largely ignored the ART of COACHING.
  • Yet it is the ART of COACHING which drives the SCIENCE of SPORT.
  • Content and Intent: Science and Art.

Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts. (Attributed to Einstein).

Five Things We Need to Do to Change the Direction and Impact of Coaches and Coaching:

  1. Move on from the PERFORMANCE PATHWAY.  https://newsportfuture.com/sport-pathway/
  2. Focus on the PERSON AND THEIR POTENTIAL AND NOT THE PERFORMANCE. https://newsportfuture.com/save-your-sport/
  3. CONNECT, ENGAGE, INSPIRE – UNDERSTAND THE PERSON IN FRONT OF YOU FIRST – FORGET BIOMECHANICS, PHYSIOLOGY AND PERIODIZATION UNTIL YOU KNOW THE HUMAN BEING STANDING THERE.
  4. THE PERSON IS KEY! HOLISTIC – “WHOLE”COACHING. https://wgcoaching.com/podcast/whole-coaching/
  5. PRIMARY FOCUS – KEEP THEM SMILING, KEEP THEM COMING, “FALL IN LOVE” WITH SPORT. https://newsportfuture.com/the-teenage-tumble/
